Abstract: This project entitled “Spectral Effect Analysis of CdTe Technology and Performance Modelling using One Diode and Two Diode Models†is a two-pronged study on thin film photovoltaic (PV) modules based on CdTe technology. The analysis is presented in two parts. The first part deals with the impact of seasonal spectral variations on the CdTe thin film technology is based on monthly and seasonal data available at the data bank of the National Institute of Solar Energy. Using the data we examined the variations in the spectral mismatch factor (MMF) by statistical techniques in Excel and the results are provided in graphical form in the study. A change in spectrum with the change in the irradiance value was observed. Seasonal changes in terms of energy content have also been analyzed here. The second part presents a PV cell-to-module mathematical modelling using the single-diode and double diode models on Excel. The results have been compared with the data obtained experimentally for different temperature and radiation intensities. It was found that in CdTe technology, one diode model has been more accurate in predicting the Pmpp in comparison to the two diode model.
