The following study is a contribution to the Indian agricultural exports of turmeric. The study examines the pricing behavior of Indian turmeric exporters consistent with a model that permits identification of pricing to market (PTM) behavior of imperfect market competition in agri-food markets. Although there are studies that cover PTM behavior of U.S. and Canadian wheat exports, Japanese exports of manufactured goods, Thailand and U.S. export of long-grain rice, there have been no studies that have examined PTM behavior of Indian turmeric exports. The estimation strategy is of a panel time series approach that takes into account panel co-integration. In the Indian turmeric product context, the conventional PTM model indicated evidence of imperfect competition in international markets for Indian turmeric. Here we observe price discrimination and market segmentation in the model with real exchange rate. The export adjustment pattern in most cases tended to exacerbate the effect of exchange rate fluctuations on foreign currency prices of Indian products.
