Abstract: Uttarakhand a state in the north Indian region of Himalayas also popular as Devbhumi (Land of
the Gods) due to presence of numerous pilgrimage sites and religious places is also a big
attraction for tourists as a place for adventure and cultural tourism with many wildlife
sanctuaries and beautiful places to visit like Mussoorie, Dhanoulti etc. The Char Dhams
(Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri) in the hills attract many visitors. Foreign
tourists are attracted to this state because they wish to discover the ethnic culture and natural
beauty of this place.
The capital of Uttarakhand is Dehra Dun, is a beautiful valley surrounded by hills with good
weather conditions and access to basic transport facilities like road, rail and airport. It is
located 230 km from the national capital, Delhi. Apart from being rich in natural beauty, the
town is also known for many famous educational institutions. Important national institutions like
Oil and Natural Gas Commission, Survey of India, Indian Institute of Petroleum etc. are located
here. Many educational institutions like Forest Research Institute, Rashtriya Indian Military
College and Indian Military Academy are situated. It is a famous tourist destination.
Specifically, Basmati rice, tea and litchi orchards increase its popularity and provide beauty to
the city.
It is also a popular tourist circuit for the above mentioned and they pass through the city to visit
other places in Uttarakhand. Although there is a lot of tourist traffic in the city both domestic
and foreign the statistics show that the trends are not constant and hence the need for private
developers to promote tourist satisfaction in the capital city. A partnership between the public
body and private builders is being explored by UIPC to promote infrastructure which would
make tourism an enriching and everlasting experience.
The project is being developed with an aim to –
• Develop Tourism Campus on a PPP Mode(Public Private Partnership)
• Analysis of observations made of current tourist visits
• Understand the viewpoint of officials of tourism board
• Assess current situation of tourist spots close to the land provided for development of the
campus
