Emerson Centre of Excellence for Sustainability Studies

"Emerson Centre of Excellence for Sustainability Studies" launched at TERI School of Advanced Studies on June 30, 2022, as a part of their long-term collaborative relationship. The Centre will focus on promoting and strengthening research based learning on key areas of sustainability. The Centre shall align with the 'Greening With' theme of the sustainability agenda of Emerson.

Mr. Michael Train, Senior Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer, Emerson and Dr. Amit Paithankar, Managing Director, South Asia, Emerson, Prof. Prateek Sharma, VC TERI SAS and Prof. Shaleen Singhal, Dean (Research and Partnerships), faculty members of TERI SAS and Emerson delegation members, launched the Centre of Excellence.

Prof. Shaleen Singhal, Director

Shaleen Singhal is a Professor at TERI School of Advanced Studies. He had been a Visiting Fulbright Fellow at the Yale University in 2018 and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, United Kingdom. Prof. Singhal also works with The Nature Conservancy (TNC), India as Head of the Indian Collaborative for Applied Sustainability Solutions (ICASS) being established with support from the Tata Trusts to strengthen the Science-Policy-Practice Interface in India. He has around 27 years of research, consulting, teaching, and academic administration experience in India and the UK. Prof. Singhal is a founding member of the International Universities Climate Alliance; board member of the ProSPER.Net alliance in the Asia-Pacific region; and member of the Global Urban Competitiveness Project Council US. Dr Sapan Thapar, Associate Professor

Dr Sapan Thapar is an Associate Professor at the Department of Sustainable Engineering, TERI School of Advanced Studies. He completed his doctoral research as well as Masters, both in the field of energy, from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. Dr Thapar, a certified Energy Manager, has over two decade long experience in the energy sector, with expertise in energy policy, green finance and energy efficiency. Dr. Anand Madhukar presently works as Assistant Professor at TERI School of Advanced Studies (TERI SAS), New Delhi, India. He also serves as Program Coordinator for M.Sc. (Climate Science and Policy), Member (Board of Studies) for the Department of Natural & Applied Sciences, Coordinator for TERI SAS participation in UNFCCC COP events, Member (Institute Innovation Council/IIC), and Member (Doctoral Programme Executive Committee) at TERI SAS. Dr Kumar holds expertise in Demographic and Public Health issues. Possessing his academic training in disciplines such as Geography, Population Studies, and Development Economics, Dr. Kumar embraces an authentic command in dealing with a wide spectrum of population development research with the application of a multidisciplinary approach. He is an alumnus of University of Oslo, Norway and University of Dundee, Scotland, where he has completed his course work in “International Development Studies” and “Epidemiology and Global Health”, respectively. Dr Suneel Pandey is Senior Fellow and Director, Environment & Waste Management Division, TERI. In addition, he is affiliate faculty member, Emerson Centre of Excellence for Sustainability Studies at the TERI School of Advanced Studies.
