Abstract

This study concentrates on sanitation technologies and models best fit to be used in complex scenarios of Urban Poor Dwellings. These are the areas in a city where poor people reside. For the study, site chosen is Ghousiya colony, south-west Delhi. The village conditions are beyond doubt inhumane and horrible. The project is to study sanitation technologies, methods and models and try to fill the pitfalls when subjected to the heterogeneous nature of these areas. The study also tries to find out how successful various initiatives and general approaches adopted by most of the government departments are. Also if the solution to the problem of providing sanitation to the people lies only in the technological reforms or if there are other actors involved. In many cases it was found that even when the poor dwellings are in the heart of the city, they are often neglected and many of them are not given connections to centralized sanitation facilities. Maybe there are logical reasons to why it is done so this study tries to find out if there are other viable methods to solve the problem? If yes then can it be modified in such a way that it can successfully solve the problem by incorporating the resources available and that too in an economic way? These questions are one by one examined in the project to find out the best fit model of sanitation and sewage treatment.
